Could you check you're happy with how I propose to handle the Lists of plant genera names? I'm trying to handle it in a way that emphasizes the achievement, without just quoting the same introduction repeatedly. Adam Cuerden (talk)Has about 7.8% of all FPs 19:32, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

Thanks, and thanks for your diligent work at the Signpost, much appreciated. Your writeup works for John and me, except there are almost 14,000 vascular plant genera ... for links to a list of those, see User:Dank/sandbox. I want to cover the 14k some day, but the etymological sources just aren't sufficient yet ... that's why our first 4 genus lists cover only the genus names that Stearn lists (and that are still accepted at PoWO). - Dank (push to talk) 19:44, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
Sheesh. Good luck. I presume some of those will be synonyms, obsolete, or alternate systems, but....
Anyway, added a note to that effect, including a reference to my old biology professor who still used the two-kingdom system. Adam Cuerden (talk)Has about 7.8% of all FPs 21:15, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

I regret to inform you we're doing it again[edit]

User:ProcrastinatingReader/draft. If you wouldn't mind looking the proposal over, I think we would all appreciate it. You have a ton of institutional knowledge about this. Thank you. Enterprisey (talk!) 09:06, 6 January 2021 (UTC)

Thanks, I'll keep an eye on it. - Dank (push to talk) 15:02, 6 January 2021 (UTC)

In friendship[edit]

Nettles in frost, Ehrenbach.jpg

Have a good new year, Dan! - Jerome Kohl was on the Main page today, - he is remembered in friendship - I nominated for TFA 3 and 8 March, would you please check the blurb? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:58, 28 January 2021 (UTC)

I'm not up to speed on DYK, but that looks good to me. I'm sorry for your loss. - Dank (push to talk) 14:49, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
... our loss, - he was one of the first users to help me here, in 2009. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:40, 23 February 2021 (UTC)

Probable vandalism[edit]

Hello, I think this page has been vandalized.Venicescapes (talk) 13:23, 10 February 2021 (UTC)

Thanks. It looks like it's been reverted. Jim, I'd rather not take admin actions on TFA ... you might consider protecting these pages, at least until we're done with the month. - Dank (push to talk) 16:01, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
Semi-protected and block the ip for a month Jimfbleak - talk to me? 16:50, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
Thanks. After a couple of years of chasing vandals, I finally just started semi-protecting these pages before each month even started, with a summary of "persistent vandalism" ... because it was persistent, the unprotected pages were almost always vandalized sooner or later during their month. - Dank (push to talk) 18:26, 10 February 2021 (UTC)

Diebold;[edit]

Hi. I tried Unburying_history and so far it remains buried due to an admin on the talk page. The conflict is a bit twilight zone. Then today, starting at Conflict-of-interest_editing_on_Wikipedia I noticed you have edited Premier Election Solutions and Diebold stuff. Then I noticed that there are no flags or anything in the current articles or their talk pages about the history of edits by the company which you have talked about. Which seems extra fishy. Thought maybe you'd have some interest/insight.

(By the way, I'm confused by your and Dank55's very odd recent editing history. You seem to be making a ton of toy edits, day after day... Can't figure out where your main account is, or your mentioned doppleganger documentation.)

--50.201.195.170 (talk) 05:43, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

It looks like you're talking about a few edits I made to the talk page of that article 13 years ago. I haven't thought about the subject or kept up with developments since then, and it's not a subject I'm interested in. My current work mostly involves preparing plant lists, initially in my own userspace. - Dank (push to talk) 06:10, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

March flowers[edit]

Daisies, Rüdesheim.jpg

Thank you for having improved and supported Carmen, with Bizet's music "expressing the emotions and suffering of his characters" as Brian worded it. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:12, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

I like the daisies ... we've got daffodils and camellias blooming now, and lots of wildflowers. - Dank (push to talk) 16:18, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
Here, it's just the start. I uploaded a frozen pic, DYK, - I thought of Flyer22 Frozen and the others who "have just given up". --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:53, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
today (IWD): MMMM with a reference to Carmen again --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:38, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
... and today Bach's cantata composed for today, - perhaps listen. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:40, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
... and the first performance was on a Palm Sunday, and Yoninah's obituary with the beginning of Passover --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:52, 28 March 2021 (UTC)
Very sorry to hear about Yoninah. - Dank (push to talk) 22:21, 28 March 2021 (UTC)

Coulterella and Coulteria[edit]

Coulteria is named for Thomas Coulter, but Coulterophytum and the valid (first published) of the two Coulterellas are for John Merle Coulter. I don't know how to break up the set. Also dates for Condal are unknown. I had mistakenly given him the dates belonging to one of the artists of the expedition, which were copied after I neglected to have them deleted from whatever site I had given them to. Nomen ambiguum (talk) 20:51, 18 March 2021 (UTC)

Sorry, thanks for catching that, I'll go fix. - Dank (push to talk) 21:24, 18 March 2021 (UTC)

I think I made a mistake... the group one doesn't seem to work. The others all do, even when there are no linked pages. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 18:56, 29 March 2021 (UTC)

RFC on citation style[edit]

An editor switched the citation style on Russian battleship Dvenadsat Apostolov without getting consensus and I reverted him for violating WP:CITEVAR. He's now started a RFC on changing the style, but I'd appreciate it if you could keep an eye on it and maybe close it whenever appropriate as I'm not at all familiar with the workings of RFCs. If you're too busy, perhaps you could recommend somebody else?--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 01:59, 29 March 2021 (UTC)

Good to hear from you. I'd like to help. I can think of maybe 5 reasons why I'm not I don't think I'm the right person to close it, but I'll go join the discussion. Most of the active reviewers at FAC are good with CITEVAR and FAOWN ... I would think any of them would be better at closing this than me. OTOH, I've been seeing more unworkable demands pop up over the past year than I remember previously ... maybe covid has been affecting the general mood, or maybe it's something else ... and if this is one more example of things getting harder for no reason, then we may both be screwed. - Dank (push to talk) 02:21, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
I appreciate it. I'll keep your suggestion in mind once things get a little further along.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 11:39, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
Sturm, just letting you know I'm still watching the RfC at Russian battleship Dvenadsat Apostolov ... doesn't seem to be blowing up yet, but if this becomes a bigger thing, let me know please. - Dank (push to talk) 14:39, 17 April 2021 (UTC)

Wikidata[edit]

Can we please keep the conversation in the FLC? You're not actually telling people the reason for my objection to the Wikidata links, just asking off-nom for their preferences. without them necessarily understanding why I think a link to an unreferenced database dump with nothing useful for our readers in it is not what we expect from our finest work on Wikipedia. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 21:04, 2 May 2021 (UTC)

AFAIK, this was resolved to your satisfaction, let me know if not. - Dank (push to talk) 03:01, 8 May 2021 (UTC)

Request for peer review help[edit]

Hi Dank. I hope you are doing well and staying safe during these times! Apologize to bother and posting a random request. I have just started to work on a stub (Fontainea Venosa)and had added some sections. I am trying my best to get the article to B class hopefully. Knowing your expertise, I would love if you can help me to review and left a comment on what I can do to improve my edits. I hope that this is okay, but no pressure if you are busy. That is completely fine and understandable :) Hope to hear from you soon. The article is Fontainea Venosa

Thank you so much :) Sparklingkull (talk) 01:44, 24 May 2021 (UTC)

I appreciate the invite, but I'm tied up. - Dank (push to talk) 02:07, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
