The Graphics Lab is a project to improve the graphical content of the Wikimedia projects. Requests for image improvements can be added to the workshop pages: Illustrations, Photographs and Maps. For questions or suggestions one can use the talk pages: Talk:Graphics Lab, Talk:Illustrations, Talk:Photographs and Talk:Maps.
This specific page is the requests page for the Map workshop. Anyone can make a request for a map to be created or improved for a Wikipedia article. The standard format for making a request is shown below, along with general advice, and should be followed.
You are encouraged to share information and request advice from others. Also see possible conventions toolbox, map tutorials and topographic map tutorials.

Advice to requesters
  • Sourced requests: If possible, please try to provide a reliable source to create a map. This includes a map already on Wikipedia with a reliable source or an external link. Note that some of us have access to libraries and may have access to cited books.
  • Please check: Please check back regularly to see if progress has been made or if any additional questions need to be answered before the request can be completed.
  • Direct collaboration: Some mapmakers are especially interested by one area (e.g. India). If you notice a mapmaker fitting your needs, you can propose a direct collaboration, using their personal talk page to request maps.
  • {{Reqmap}}: To request a map, you can also tag the talk page of the article in need of a map with or {{Reqmapin|Australia}} (article then appear in Category:Wikipedia requested maps)
  • {{Resolved}}: If a request is done to your satisfaction, please mark it with {{resolved}}.

Perhaps an even better approach is to just go to 2020 E-Government Development Index country listings, print screen, paste in GIMP, open Blankmap-world-v6 and simply detect the image color of each country (there's a GIMP tool for that) and then color the countries of Blankmap-world-v6 (both images can be put side by side, allowing to do this very quickly)

As of November 26, 2020, Colombia bans the commercial and subsistence fishing of sharks within its waters. The map should now reflect this change and, according to the map legend, should now be colored in red rather than black. Hello Ikonact, it would be great if you could do that. Here on this link http://www.katastar.hr/en/#/ you will get an official map of Croatia divided into cadastral municipalities, so it will be of great help to you. Thanks Kaštel Stari! I looked at the site and it is quite helpful. Unfortunately, I do not see a way to download the borders of the municipalities in digital format. Kaštel Stari on a first try I can get the cadaster data but I cannot extract usable digital data. The site provides WMS services which is in fact images not a vector data. Hi Ikonact! I think it's better that you ask then me, and just put It that you need vector data for all cadastral municipalities not any specific cadastral parcel and if they reject you, I don't even need the whole of Croatia but a smaller part of it. Kaštel Stari I have no answer. In the meantime I see that a WFS was added that can help to download vector data but I cannot manage to make it work. Every time I try to connect it gives an error and requires authentication. I will keep trying. --Ikonact (talk) 21:37, 19 December 2020 (UTC)

Okay, I've noticed a few inaccuracies with the above-left map that should probably be fixed:

1) The flag of the Dominican Republic is incorrectly shown for Dominica (above), a completely different country.

2) Saint Vincent and the Grenadines gained independence in 1979, not 1931.

3) There's no arrows linking the flags of the Maldives, Myanmar and Sudan to their respective countries.

4) The flag of Malta is wrongly shown to be linked to the Balearic Islands, not at Malta itself.

5) Nauru gained independence in 1968, not 1957.

6) The Maldives gained independence in 1965, not 1982.

7) The flags of Tonga and Tuvalu are actually shown pointing to Fiji, and the flag of Fiji itself is linked to Vanuatu (the actual locations of said countries are provided on the above-right map).

8) The flag of Qatar is wrongly shown to be linked to the United Arab Emirates, not at Qatar itself.

9) The flag of Jordan seems to be pointing more at the West Bank than at Jordan itself.

10) The flag of Belize was slightly altered in 2019 (as shown above), so the one on the map should be changed to reflect that.

11) The flag of Mauritius is not pointing at Mauritius at all, but rather at a random spot in the Indian Ocean.

12) Papua New Guinea gained independence from Australia in 1975, not from Britain, hence it should be removed from the map (otherwise the map would have to include all other countries that gained independence from former British holdings, such as Samoa, Bangladesh, Namibia, South Sudan, etc.).

Can someone please update this map? Firstly, the age for Japan is currently wrong, as according to what is listed on the table on the page, the age for unlimted hetrosexual consent in Japan is 18, not 20, and therefore should be green, not blue. Can someone also please include the relevant colours for Australia? Per the table on the page each of Australia's eight states has an age of either 16 or 17 respectively. Request for historical map of Ghana[edit]

  • Instead of today′s regions, the borders of the pre-independence regional configurations should be shown, perhaps also (with less line thickness?) the borders of the five regions post-independence.

To show what Ghana looked like just before independence, it would be nice to have a map of the pre-independence regional configurations (Northern Territories, Ashanti, Gold Coast Colony′s Western and Eastern Province, Trans-Volta Togoland). This map (1946) could serve as a model. Trans-Volta Togoland ("Trusteeship boundary" in first map), however, should be demarcated as in this map. Unusual times, but this year the Boat Race is being held on the River Great Ouse as opposed to the Thames, and I'd like a map to reflect the course. The official website has a crude course map and I've found the two (appropriately licensed) Ordnance Survey maps which cover it (TL58SE and TL58NE). I guess ideally the two images need to be tiled and then the result cropped down, and finally the course overlaid on top per the official website. Cheers. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Coloring adjustment for map, per FAC recommendation[edit]

In the course of the current FAC of Sulayman ibn Abd al-Malik, it was suggested in the Image Review that the difference between the green vs lime green-shaded areas of the map be improved for clarity, and further, I think the difference between the dark brown and light brown should also be improved. Perhaps its best that the lime green and light brown be replaced with entirely different colors: lime green → orange, light brown → purple. I am not able to do this without botching the map.
