The Graphics Lab is a project to improve the graphical content of the Wikimedia projects. Requests for image improvements can be added to the workshop pages: Illustrations, Photographs and Maps. For questions or suggestions one can use the talk pages: Talk:Graphics Lab, Talk:Illustrations, Talk:Photographs and Talk:Maps.
This specific page is the requests page for the Map workshop. Anyone can make a request for a map to be created or improved for a Wikipedia article. The standard format for making a request is shown below, along with general advice, and should be followed.
You are encouraged to share information and request advice from others. Also see possible conventions toolbox, map tutorials and topographic map tutorials.

Advice to requesters
  • Sourced requests: If possible, please try to provide a reliable source to create a map. This includes a map already on Wikipedia with a reliable source or an external link. Note that some of us have access to libraries and may have access to cited books.
  • Please check: Please check back regularly to see if progress has been made or if any additional questions need to be answered before the request can be completed.
  • Direct collaboration: Some mapmakers are especially interested by one area (e.g. India). If you notice a mapmaker fitting your needs, you can propose a direct collaboration, using their personal talk page to request maps.
  • {{Reqmap}}: To request a map, you can also tag the talk page of the article in need of a map with or {{Reqmapin|Australia}} (article then appear in Category:Wikipedia requested maps)
  • {{Resolved}}: If a request is done to your satisfaction, please mark it with {{resolved}}.

EGDI-levels by country 2020[edit]

Article(s)
E-government#UN_e-Government_Development_Index
Request
Refer to E-government survey 2020, Figure 1.1 at chapter 1 page 41 entitled "Geographraphical distribution of the 4 egdi groups"

Just color blankmap world v6 using the color scheme used there (or to improve the map further you can use different colors, like red (=low), orange (middle), yellow (high), very high (green)) Title of the new file should be "EGDI-levels by country 2020" --Genetics4good (talk) 19:55, 26 November 2020 (EST)

Perhaps an even better approach is to just go to 2020 E-Government Development Index country listings, print screen, paste in GIMP, open Blankmap-world-v6 and simply detect the image color of each country (there's a GIMP tool for that) and then color the countries of Blankmap-world-v6 (both images can be put side by side, allowing to do this very quickly)

As of November 26, 2020, Colombia bans the commercial and subsistence fishing of sharks within its waters. The map should now reflect this change and, according to the map legend, should now be colored in red rather than black. Cadastral municipalities of Croatia[edit]

Hello, can you please make a map of Croatia divided into cadastral municipalities? The map above shows the division of Croatia into municipalities, but they are not the same as cadastral municipalities. If you need any more information of help, let me know. Thanks in advance. -- Kaštel Stari (talk) 12:22, 29 November 2020 (UTC)

Hi Kaštel Stari, I can give a try if I can find referenced data for the cadastral municipalities in Croatia. Do you have any idea if such data can be found? --Ikonact (talk) 20:31, 7 December 2020 (UTC)

Hello Ikonact, it would be great if you could do that. Here on this link http://www.katastar.hr/en/#/ you will get an official map of Croatia divided into cadastral municipalities, so it will be of great help to you. To see a map of cadastral municipalities click Find cadastral parcel and then zoom in. Kaštel Stari (talk) 20:56, 7 December 2020 (UTC)
Thanks Kaštel Stari! I looked at the site and it is quite helpful. Unfortunately, I do not see a way to download the borders of the municipalities in digital format. I will need digital data otherwise it will be quite a difficult task to draw by hand all municipalities --Ikonact (talk) 08:34, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
Ok, I found another site http://geoportal.nipp.hr/en/ or http://geoportal.nipp.hr/geonetwork/srv/eng/catalog.search#/metadata/d1c956e1-437c-42d8-b1bc-fa9953269ce2. I hope this will be more helpful. Kaštel Stari (talk) 08:54, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
Thanks Kaštel Stari! I looked quickly on the links and this may work. I was not able to find out quickly how to download the data but I will dig later on and keep you informed. --Ikonact (talk) 09:31, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
Ok, great!!! Kaštel Stari (talk) 09:41, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
Kaštel Stari on a first try I can get the cadaster data but I cannot extract usable digital data. The site provides WMS services which is in fact images not a vector data. I will try again but the best will be to get hold of the cadaster municipality vector data. --Ikonact (talk) 22:03, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
Ok Ikonact, I can't find cadaster municipality vector data so I can't help you no more. Kaštel Stari (talk) 22:11, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
Kaštel Stari I am sorry. I will continue checking what I can do but ideally I can do a map from vector data. Otherwise it is complicated for me to draw by hand. I guess this data should be available somewhere as the legislation in EU request open access to such data. Still not giving up :) --Ikonact (talk) 22:20, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
Ok Ikonact, if you cant' find vector data, can you at least make part of the map? And I was looking but I can't find anything online. Thanks Kaštel Stari (talk) 22:33, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi Kaštel Stari! I looked for vector data but I cannot find. I think we can write to the contact person on this page and ask if vector data is available. I guess you speak Croatian so you can send a mail. Otherwise I can send it in English. Please let me know --Ikonact (talk) 08:22, 9 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi Ikonact! I think it's better that you ask then me, and just put It that you need vector data for all cadastral municipalities not any specific cadastral parcel and if they reject you, I don't even need the whole of Croatia but a smaller part of it. Send an email and we'll see. Thanks Kaštel Stari (talk) 08:34, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
Kaštel Stari, I sent the mail today. I will let you know when I have an answer. Cheers --Ikonact (talk) 10:31, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
Ikonact, great. Thanks! Kaštel Stari (talk) 10:45, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
Kaštel Stari I have no answer. In the meantime I see that a WFS was added that can help to download vector data but I cannot manage to make it work. Every time I try to connect it gives an error and requires authentication. I will keep trying. --Ikonact (talk) 21:37, 19 December 2020 (UTC)

Independence from Britain[edit]

Article(s)
List of countries that have gained independence from the United Kingdom
Request
Okay, I've noticed a few inaccuracies with the above-left map that should probably be fixed:

1) The flag of the Dominican Republic is incorrectly shown for Dominica (above), a completely different country.

2) Saint Vincent and the Grenadines gained independence in 1979, not 1931.

3) There's no arrows linking the flags of the Maldives, Myanmar and Sudan to their respective countries.

4) The flag of Malta is wrongly shown to be linked to the Balearic Islands, not at Malta itself.

5) Nauru gained independence in 1968, not 1957.

6) The Maldives gained independence in 1965, not 1982.

7) The flags of Tonga and Tuvalu are actually shown pointing to Fiji, and the flag of Fiji itself is linked to Vanuatu (the actual locations of said countries are provided on the above-right map).

8) The flag of Qatar is wrongly shown to be linked to the United Arab Emirates, not at Qatar itself.

9) The flag of Jordan seems to be pointing more at the West Bank than at Jordan itself.

10) The flag of Belize was slightly altered in 2019 (as shown above), so the one on the map should be changed to reflect that.

11) The flag of Mauritius is not pointing at Mauritius at all, but rather at a random spot in the Indian Ocean.

12) Papua New Guinea gained independence from Australia in 1975, not from Britain, hence it should be removed from the map (otherwise the map would have to include all other countries that gained independence from former British holdings, such as Samoa, Bangladesh, Namibia, South Sudan, etc.).

Women's poll tax repeal movement
Request
This article is is currently at FAC. One of the reviewers found the above map, but I'd like to tailor it to specifically address only poll taxes which applied as prerequisites to voting in the US. A discussion, along with sourcing is here: Talk:Women's poll tax repeal movement#GIF
Can the title be "Poll tax as a condition to voting"? (Or possibly History of ... )
Can we add and remove parts of the GIF as indicated in the discussion?
Can we change the colors as indicated in the discussion?
Can you slow down the time increment so that people have the opportunity to read the text? Thanks! -- SusunW (talk) 19:12, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
Discussion

Susun, not sure if you're requesting a new GIF or to modify the old, but I think a new one is the right way to go -- the existing one can be used where it is now. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 15:00, 19 December 2020 (UTC)

I assumed that the original would stay as it is and the changes we are asking for would be a derivative but separate image. The idea wasn't ours, it was the original creator's, but we want a new GIF based on that concept. SusunW (talk) 15:28, 19 December 2020 (UTC)

Can someone please update this map? Firstly, the age for Japan is currently wrong, as according to what is listed on the table on the page, the age for unlimted hetrosexual consent in Japan is 18, not 20, and therefore should be green, not blue. Can someone also please include the relevant colours for Australia? Per the table on the page each of Australia's eight states has an age of either 16 or 17 respectively. Request
Please use the information gathered at Talk:Queen Emma of Hawaii#1865-66 Travel to Europe and the United States to create a map of the travels and stops of Queen Emma of Hawaii. Something like File:Kalakaua journey around the world.svg and File:Kalakaua's 1874-75 state visit map.svg. Really significant because she did this journey before the completion of the transcontinental railroad or the Panama Canal. -- KAVEBEAR (talk) 08:37, 25 December 2020 (UTC)
Also a side note. If there is a possibility of including another color line for the travels of her other companions (see Talk:Kiliwehi#New Zealand).KAVEBEAR (talk) 09:12, 25 December 2020 (UTC)

Points in Queen Emma's journey for now. Will probably add more for her travels within Britain like to Colchester and Cornwall. KAVEBEAR (talk) 07:59, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

Unusual times, but this year the Boat Race is being held on the River Great Ouse as opposed to the Thames, and I'd like a map to reflect the course. The official website has a crude course map and I've found the two (appropriately licensed) Ordnance Survey maps which cover it (TL58SE and TL58NE). Coloring adjustment for map, per FAC recommendation[edit]

In the course of the current FAC of Sulayman ibn Abd al-Malik, it was suggested in the Image Review that the difference between the green vs lime green-shaded areas of the map be improved for clarity, and further, I think the difference between the dark brown and light brown should also be improved. Perhaps its best that the lime green and light brown be replaced with entirely different colors: lime green → orange, light brown → purple. I am not able to do this without botching the map. Any help is appreciated. Thank you. -- Al Ameer (talk) 04:58, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
